Reblozyl (luspatercept-aamt) is not safe to receive while pregnant or breastfeeding. Certain factors, including the risks of fetal harm, may determine whether you can receive the drug during this time.
Reblozyl is not safe to receive during pregnancy. Researchers haven’t studied the drug in pregnant people. However, they expect that the drug can cause fetal harm if people receive it during pregnancy. This expectation is based on the way the drug works and findings from animal studies.
If you can become pregnant, have a pregnancy test before you start receiving Reblozyl. This is so your doctor can be sure you’re not pregnant before giving you the drug.
If you’re pregnant or planning to become pregnant, talk with your doctor about other treatment options. And if you think you could be pregnant while receiving Reblozyl, tell your doctor right away.
Reblozyl and fertility
Reblozyl may affect your ability to become pregnant. Animal studies found that the drug temporarily reduced female fertility. In these studies, the drug didn’t affect male fertility. However, animal studies don’t always predict what can happen in humans.
If you’re concerned about the possible effect of Reblozyl on your fertility, talk with your doctor.

Do not breastfeed during treatment with Reblozyl and for 3 months after your last dose.
It isn’t known whether Reblozyl passes into human breast milk. However, if it does get into breast milk, it has the potential to cause serious side effects in a breastfed child.
If you’re breastfeeding or planning to do so, talk with your doctor before receiving Reblozyl.
If you’re sexually active and you or your partner can become pregnant, it’s important to consider how Reblozyl could affect your birth control options.
For females receiving Reblozyl
Females need to use effective birth control during treatment with Reblozyl and for 3 months after the last dose.
For males receiving Reblozyl
The manufacturer of Reblozyl hasn’t given birth control recommendations for males receiving the drug. If you’re a male receiving Reblozyl and you have a partner who can become pregnant, talk with your doctor about your birth control needs during treatment.
